A series of explosions in Brussels Tuesday morning killed at least 34 people and injured more than 100 others. Six of those wounded survivors were American citizens: a service member and five of their family members.

Lt. Cheryl Collins, a spokeswoman for the U.S. European Command, confirmed that an American service member was hurt in the chaos in an email to the Military Times.

“We are aware of one U.S. service member and his family who were caught up in this tragedy. Due to privacy concerns, we are not releasing the status of their injuries at this time,” Collins wrote.

The military also confirmed that the other five Americans wounded in the blasts were military family members, but didn’t specify whether they were related to the hurt service member.

The names of all Brussels victims are being kept quiet as Belgian and French law enforcement comb the city for suspects. Authorities believe the two airport bombings and the metro explosion were carried out by three individuals, two of whom are dead.

UPDATE 1: The injured American service member serves in the Air Force. The other five injured Americans were his wife and four children.
