Valentine’s Day just came early.

Two wartime lovers–American WWII veteran Norwood Thomas and former British nurse Joyce Morris–have finally reunited face to face after 70 years apart.

We first reported the story of the star-crossed couple when Thomas found Morris on Facebook and arranged for a Skype reunion. They originally met in England during WWII. Their summer romance continued long after Thomas returned to the states, but after exchanging love letters and proposing, she broke up with him.

It was only during their Skype reunion that Morris explained why she had broken off their romance. Apparently, she had misunderstood his letter and believed Thomas had already married another woman. Mail was a bit slower in those days, so the miscommunication was never cleared up.

At first, Thomas did not plan to meet Morris in her new home in Australia because he didn’t have the money to fund a plane ticket. Thankfully his community rallied to raise enough money to give Thomas a roundtrip ticket down under, and the 93 year-old set off.

How did their first date in more than 70 years go? Absolutely adorable, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

Tea and refreshments went unfinished as he and Morris sat on a couch, their arms entwined.

They giggled like teenagers, interrupted each other, and jousted over memories that didn’t match.

Morris, who’s more reserved than her charismatic sidekick, often clasped Thomas’ hand as they spoke.

The lines on their faces may say otherwise, but it’s almost like no time has passed.

“It’s fantastic,” Thomas said.

“I think he’s brilliant,” Morris said of the man she used to call Tommy. “Oh, we have been having a good old yarn.”

The wartime lovers plan to spend the next two weeks together. Sparks may fly.
