Hollywood actor and activist Ryan Phillippe joined former North Carolina senator Elizabeth Dole Wednesday on Capitol Hill to testify before the Senate Special Committee on Aging to highlight one extremely important issue.

The needs of the more than 5 million military veteran caregivers in the United States.

Phillippe has been a spokesman for Dole’s charity organization (which shares her name) since last fall. In their fight, they’re pushing two key bills: the Military Caregiver Services Improvement Act and the RAISE Family Caregiver Act.

During the hearing, Dole also raised an important issue completely unrelated to caregivers concerning older veterans and the treatments they’re allowed to receive.

This from The Hill:

“Caregivers from pre-9/11 have been providing services for years and have had no acknowledgement,” Dole said. “The illnesses, injuries and wounds are compounded as they wound. Not only war-related wounds. For example, the advent of ALS, Parkinson’s disease and chronic pain. Totally unacknowledged with very little support.”
