A United States Navy veteran and his wife are entangled in a battle with a California city ordinance that has prohibited them from flying two American flags on their property.

Recently, the couple made a Skype appearance on FOX News, where they were asked about the ordeal, and how they’re dealing with it.

“I was furious. I can’t believe someone turned me in on the code. And the two flags I put up were professionally-done, they were fine and beautiful and everyone enjoyed them,” said Ron Raeta alongside his better half, Sherri.

“But one person had nothing to do, I guess filed a code violation.”

“The city council tried to help us but they said if it’s in the code you gotta take it down.”

“So they made me take the flag down on D-Day.”

“And then to top it off they charged me $104 for a permit to put the flagpole in the ground.”

His wife added that it was “$4,400 to file a petition [to the city] but it doesn’t guarantee it’ll be put on the ballot.”

“To me it’s an insult to have to take any American flag down,” she said. “That’s what our people fight for. This is America and we should be able to fly the red, white and blue.”
