On any given night, almost 40,000 veterans go to sleep without a home.

This harsh reality became known to five-year old Tyler Stallings after watching a video for school, and immediately, he knew he wanted to do something to help.

Despite his age and size, Tyler was already known by his community for helping others.

Stallings and his mother, Andrea Blackstone, partnered with businesses in Annapolis, Maryland to provide bookshelves in various stores with donated books. That way, books can be accessible to adults and children who might otherwise not have that opportunity.

With his father, grandfather, and uncle in mind, who are ALL veterans, Tyler decided to take on another project to help the veteran population.

Along with his mom, he wrote a book called “Tyler Goes Around the World” and uses the proceeds to provide resources for homeless veterans.

And somehow, he managed to do even more.

This via WUSA:

“Nobody deserves to be kicked out on the street after being in the military,” said Tyler, who asked his mother to take him somewhere to buy lumber and nails.

Since building homes was not financially possible, Tyler and his mother decided to start a Give Back to Veterans Campaign. They used donations and a grant to make hundreds of hygiene kits. The products were donated to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in D.C. and to the Patriot House transitional home for homeless male veterans in Anne Arundel County.

To raise additional funding, Tyler used to dress up as a superhero, stop by businesses and explain his mission in hopes of support.

So far, Tyler has raised $5,500 and has more plans in the works to help the veteran community. In fact, Tyler and his mother are working on a new coloring book that is bilingual called, “Tyler Learns Spanish.”
