Thanks to a new app called ServingVETS, veterans (verified through ID.me) will have the ability to find & give recommendations on local veteran services from the palms of their hands. The company is currently crowdfunding through Indiegogo to raise funds necessary to expand and develop the platform.

Imagine a military veteran in dire need of support services such as job training, educational opportunities or scholarships. This veteran inputs the service they need into Google, but is immediately inundated with different organizations and companies. At a glance, it’s impossible to tell which organizations have a record of helping military veterans and which merely claim they do on a Google search. Overwhelmed and at a loss, the veteran abandons their search.

The military community needed a better way to easily find resources that have already proven successful for other veterans. To solve this problem, Pentagon civilian employee Jonathan Lunardi created ServingVETS.

This veteran-only social media network allows members to rate and review local programs. From businesses and schools to nonprofits and restaurants, ServingVETS serves as a hub for the veteran community where it can recommend vital services and improve the lives of the military veterans who use them.

“Veterans trust each other’s opinions and need a central location to record them,” Lunardi said in a press release. “The goal of ServingVETS is to help universities and businesses improve their veteran-oriented services, while also giving veterans the knowledge to make informed choices about their time and money.”

To prevent fraud, ServingVETS is using ID.me’s identity verification system to make sure every ServingVETS member is truly a military veteran before they join. The businesses and organizations on the platform are also barred from contributing to their own pages. ServingVETS is truly a veterans-only club.
