A new line of toys is here to keep the inner peace of your household.
Yoga Joes, an action figure line founded by yoga enthusiast Dan Abramson, takes the classic green army soldiers of our childhoods and adds a serene spin. Rather than holding or posing with guns, these tiny military guys are arranged in nine popular yoga stances such as the tree and cobra poses.
Abramson’s other business venture, Brogamats, manufactures yoga mats for guys interested in trying yoga but too tall, hefty or sweaty for standard mats.
The common thread of both Brogamats and Yoga Joes is to help people get into yoga who might otherwise write it off as not for them–including military members.
“I made Yoga Joes in the spirit of getting more people to try yoga,” Abramson wrote on his Kickstarter page. “More unexpected folks are reaping the benefits of yoga today, from professional athletes, to children, to military men and women returning from wartime.”
Yoga Joes shows a side of military life where troops keep the peace and protect others through nonviolence. Abramson told Buzzfeed that this alternative portrayal has been welcomed by the military community.
“One mom emailed me because she doesn’t allow violent toys in her house, especially soldiers, since her husband is deployed in Afghanistan,” Abramson explained. “She’s overjoyed that her kids can play with soldiers without feeling anxious about their dad.”
