Sometimes, a run-of-the-mill drug bust becomes a wildlife rescue mission.

When a Coast Guardsmen team responded to reports of a suspicious object on the coast of Alameda, California, they discovered two sea turtles in mortal peril. The turtles were ensnared by fishing line and attached to a makeshift buoy. One of the turtles was being strangled by the fishing line wrapped around its neck.

“There was no question what we had to do,” Petty Officer 2nd Class Hylan Rousseau told  a local TV station. “And no one spoke a word. We immediately moved in to rescue mode.”

Watch the video below to see the Coast Guardsmen in action, and then watch the turtles gurgle their thanks before diving back under the water.

At 70 lbs, those turtles are heavier than they look. It takes Coast Guard guns to pull off this kind of rescue mission.
