Founded by Air Force veteran John Mahshie, Veterans Healing Farm is a non-profit community farm based and operated in Hendersonville, North Carolina. According to it’s website, the missions of VHF is to aid veterans reintegrating into civilian life by growing produce, raising farm animals, and conducting seminars on holistic health and sustainability.

In the video, Mahshie and other veterans talk about how the Veterans Healing Farm has changed their lives – the most valuable asset they seem to cherish is community.

“The transition was difficult for me, it [the Air Force] really had become a family in a lot of ways so when I wasn’t there anymore it was less about the job; it was more about I didn’t have the community I was used to…being apart of the veterans healing farm has really been one of those things to fill in that gap”.
