The Department of Veterans Affairs is charged with providing benefits to our nation’s heroes, but more often than not they leave the very heroes they serve in the lurch.

Iraq War veteran Chris Dorsey attempted to make an appointment to treat his worsening PTSD symptoms at the local VA clinic in Lawrenceville, Georgia. To his shock, he was told they would not see him. Dorsey tried again at another nearby VA clinic in Oakwood, this time with his smartphone in hand.

In the video, you can watch Dorsey wait patiently in line to make an appointment at this second clinic. At the 6:43 mark, he is turned away again by a VA employee, who said, “We’re not accepting any new patients–not this clinic.”

The employee provided Dorsey with no alternative options.

Later, Dorsey learned that he could use the VA Choice program to see a civilian therapist instead of relying upon the VA clinic. Again, no VA employees informed him of this, even as they were turning him away.

VA clinics can become overwhelmed with patients, but that doesn’t excuse showing ailing veterans the door without providing any helpful information.
