The remaining United States military personnel in Yemen have been evacuated due to increasing security threats in the region, according to U.S. officials Saturday.

An air base housing about 100 troops was deserted after it was attacked by al-Qaeda fighters on Friday in a zone where the infamous terror group isn’t the only violent band of extremists currently posing a risk to U.S. and allied forces.Houthi rebels and ISIS are also closing in.

The UN scheduled an emergency meeting for Sunday to discuss the escalating situation, as requested by Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi, who had to flee from the capitol last month after it was invaded by Houthis.

U.S. State Department spokesman Jeff Rathke had this to say about the decision surrounding the air base in al-Anad:

Due to the deteriorating security situation in Yemen, the US government has temporarily relocated its remaining personnel out of Yemen … There is no military solution to Yemen’s current crisis.

Prior to the evacuation the troops at the base were training Yemini fighters to combat al-Qaeda forces.
