According to CNN, U.S. Delta Force commandos have successfully captured an ISIS member during a raid in Northern Iraq. That unidentified fighter is now being detained for interrogation.

The detainee is being interrogated by the U.S. and is expected to be turned over to Iraqi officials in the coming days, two U.S. officials confirmed. They provided details to CNN but asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter, and they did not identify the location of the interrogation.

The mission was carried out by the Pentagon’s expeditionary targeting force. Defense Secretary Ash Carter acknowledged the expeditionary targeting force has been sent to Iraq to conduct raids against ISIS and to capture or kill suspects.

This marks the first time that American forces have successfully captured an ISIS militant since May 2015, when the same Delta Force commandos captured Umm Sayyaf, the wife of a prominent ISIS leader. Sayyaf provided detailed, valuable intelligence that convinced the military to collect more information from captured militants.

In fact, this latest “kill or capture” mission was modeled after the raid that resulted in Sayyaf’s detainment.

Sayyaf is currently held prisoner by the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraq. Though the Justice Department charged her for conspiring to murder American hostage Kayla Mueller, the Kurds haven’t brought any charges against Sayyaf. Like the ISIS bride, the new captured operative will probably also be held by the Kurdish or Iraqi governments.
