Each year, FedEx and the Christmas SPIRT Foundation deliver nearly 17,000 live, free Christmas trees to service members and their families during the Christmas season. Through this partnership, named Trees for Troops, each tree is farm grown and FedEx even ships some of the trees to soldiers serving on U.S. military bases overseas.
The trees are donated by American Christmas tree farms and members of the public. Since its inception in 2005, Trees for Troops and FedEx have delivered over 139,000 trees to over 60 U.S. military bases around the world.
This Christmas tradition began when FedEx asked the Christmas SPIRT Foundation to help them deliver Christmas trees to active duty service members. The Christmas SPIRT Foundation is a charity started by the farm-grown Christmas tree industry’s National Christmas Tree Association. Together, FedEx and The Christmas SPIRIT Foundation then developed Trees for Troops and planned an annual free Christmas tree delivery service.
The White House honored Trees for Troops’ annual initiative as a Top 20 Finalist in the Joining Forces Community Challenge which recognizes non-profits who support military members and their families.
