Want to join the Taliban?

There’s an app for that!

No, really, there actually is, and for a while it was available for the world to download via the Google Play Store.

But, thankfully, that was come to an end. Google removed the digital software, called “Alemarah” and designed by the extremist group themselves, from its platform Monday.

This from the BBC:

The content of the app, in the Pashto language, included official statements and videos from the Afghan movement.

The hardline group blamed “technical issues” for its disappearance shortly after it launched on 1 April.

However the BBC understands it was taken down because it violated a Google app policy which prohibits hate speech.

It was discovered and reported by a US-based organization called Site Intel Group which monitors jihadist activity.

Google declined to comment on specific app issues.

What was the Taliban trying to do with the app? According to one of their “spokesman”, it was part of their “advanced technological efforts to make a more global audience.”

In other words, they were trying to recruit more saps to strap bombs to their chests and kill not only themselves, but dozens of other innocent lives as well.
