On February 26, two days after a guilty verdict was announced in the Eddie Ray Routh trial, a Texas congressman introduced legislation to award “American Sniper” author Chris Kyle the Medal of Honor posthumously for his service in Iraq.

While enormously controversial – as well as unlikely to happen – the action has been seen by some as a political football, and others as a genuine acknowledgment of courage.
