Last August, 22 year-old Marine Jarrod Haschert took a shot in the dark and asked MMA champ Ronda Rousey to be his date for the Marine Corps ball. Rousey surprised both Haschert and the world when she promised to accompany him to the event, assuming she didn’t have any scheduling conflicts.

“You are my celebrity crush, like, I love everything you do and I think you are a phenomenal person,” Haschert had asked her in a video that wracked up 4 million views. “Which is why it would be my honor to take you to the Marine Corps Ball on December 11… I truly hope you take this into consideration because, if you do, you’d truly be making my dream come true.”

For a while, it looked like Rousey would not be able to follow through with the ball because she started dating fellow UFC fighter Travis Browne. She also retreated from the public eye after she lost a fight for the first time in November to rival Holly Holm. Despite these potential conflicts, she still turned out of the Dec. 11 event on Haschert’s arm in a black dress and loose curls.

“I promised I would go. It’s an honor to be asked,” Rousey told TMZ.

In several pictures, Haschert is seen grinning from ear to ear in his dress uniform beside Rousey, who looks like she is having an awesome time herself.
