How long can you plank?

For 57 year-old retired marine George Hood, it’s 5 hours and 15 minutes. After toiling for hours in front of crowds and cameras, Hood is now the world record holder for the longest sustained abdominal plank.

Hood’s insane display of endurance was performed not to achieve glory or bragging rights, but to raise money for the Semper Fi Fund, which aids injured marines.

While still maintaining his plank, Hood told reporters, “This is the least I could do, and the discomfort I feel right now pales in comparison to that which they’ve experienced on the battlefield. Trust me when I tell you that.” Right on.

The previous world record for abdominal planking was four hours and 23 minutes, which Hood surpassed by nearly an entire hour.

The fitness professional’s victory is just as much about his fellow servicemen as it is about his ridiculous strength.

“Don’t forget our countless Marines and service members who’ve fought the good fight, those who haven’t come home and those who are injured and living with that horror every single day,” Hood said. “Don’t forget about them.
