Bill Kristol is a current conservative political pundit and that old crazy bastard Dan Quayle’s former righthand man in the White House (Quayle was, of course, at one point the Vice President of the United States).

Anyway, as is the case with many talking heads in the media these days, Kristol is babbling out of both sides of his mouth recently spouted a “hot take” on the subject of the Confederate flag which — as you may have heard — is currently making waves all over the country (especially in the South) in the aftermath of the tragedy in Charleston.

Here’s Kristol tweeting stuff out about how America (mostly liberals) is disrespecting dead Confederate soldiers with all this flag talk and motions to remove it:

After reading this, you’re probably thinking “okay, Bill Kristol doesn’t want anyone to take down the Confederate flag from anywhere, including state capitols, etc.” — right?

Well, you’d be thinking rational. But you’d be so wrong. Shortly thereafter the deft Twitter thumb ballet Kristol completely flipped the script. So keep up.

Here he is on his own magazine’s podcast — The Weekly Standard Podcast — where he turned the tables regarding his opinion, etc.:

I hate the Left’s using of this tragedy to politicize and go after the Confederate flag, when it’s really an incidental part of the story, and to try to make broader points about the modern South, or the Republican Party, I dislike all of that intensely.

I think on the merits, the Confederate flag shouldn’t be flown on state capitols, or state capitol grounds. People can fly it in private arenas, or on appropriate memorial sites for soldiers. There you don’t need the flag, obviously, you can have a memorial site.

John McCain called for taking down the confederate flag in South Carolina in 2000, and I supported him. He’s backed off since then, but I’ve always thought it should be taken down, and if I were a South Carolina legislator, I would vote to do it. I’m a Union guy, I’m a Lincoln guy, I’m a Ulysses S. Grant guy, I’m even a Sherman guy, so I have pretty good credentials in being anti-Confederate.

He’s even a Sherman guy! Wow! Who knew?

Is he an Atlanta guy too? Because that would really be nimble.
