After the devastating bombings that killed 129 people and injured hundreds more in Paris, people around the world declared, “Today, we are all Parisians.” This slogan echoed the iconic headline that appeared in Le Monde the day after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Here in the United States, this small statement of solidarity was punctuated by a political cartoon that shows the Statue of Liberty–a monument constructed in Paris and gifted to the United States by the French–grabbing a gun and high-tailing it across the Atlantic to rescue a burning Paris. The cartoon quickly caught on and amassed thousands of shares within minutes of going live.

As this outpouring of American support and went viral, however, trolls couldn’t help but whip out their photoshop and derail the cartoon’s intended message to make it about criticizing the United States instead of helping Paris.

No, photoshoppers. No thank you.

Derailing photoedits aside, here are some other poignant political cartoons about the attacks that show our collective grief and defiance against the terrorist networks who threaten us.
