A woman who shares the blood of an American president is making a big stink over past stinks she says she was subject to while an employee at an English police station.
Marie Auma, a cousin of Barack Obama, is suing Scotland Yard for 400,000 British Pounds (a little more than $600,000 currently) claiming her former coworkers would — on purpose — “pass gas” while at her desk, which made her work life altogether rotten and unpleasant.
She says it was all part of a conspiracy to bully her.
More from the Daily Mail:
The 57-year-old, who was at Mr Obama’s inauguration in 2009, claims she was ‘belittled and humiliated’ in the campaign of alleged harassment.
It stemmed from refusal of leave to visit her brother’s grave after he died in a car crash in Kenya in 2007 and ended in her being medically retired with mental health difficulties.
Now in a trial at Central London County Court, Miss Auma, of Green Lanes, Palmers Green, Haringey, is fighting for compensation. The Met denies liability.
Auma’s barrister (her lawyer) told the press that Obama’s kin was the victim of “21st Century bullying”. She says the former worker suffered harassment that ultimately lead to health problems and even ill mental health — Auma suffered a nervous breakdown in sometime in 2008, was admitted to a facility, and hasn’t worked since. She retired “on health grounds”.
Auma is related to Obama through her aunt, Kezia Obama, who is POTUS’s stepmother in Berkshire, England.
