In 2013, Staten Island resident and rookie New York City firefighter Michael McCauley, 26, was told that he was a match for a leukemia patient in life-threatening need of a bone marrow transplant.

That patient happened to be 33-year-old Iraq War veteran, and father of two, Aaron Faulkner.

Turns out McCauley didn’t even need a fire to save a life. Watch their inspirational story play out in the video above as they meet for the very first time.
