Legally separating a man from his cat (because he was throwing it up in the air then neglecting to catch it) can produce a number of consequences.

The man can suffer emotional distress. Maybe toil with an immense amount of regret. Point fingers. Slip into denial. Forget about the whole thing and get a new cat.

But threaten to join ISIS?

Ridiculous, but that’s exactly what a 45-year-old man from Omaha did after the Nebraska Humane Society took away his kitty upon discovering abuse.

More from Omaha.com:

A week ago — some three months after the cat was taken — the man called the society and threatened to “kill every mother(expletive)” there and to “gun them all down.”

Then Sunday, he called society workers by several names and threatened to “join the terrorist group, ISIS, to bring down the NHS and its employees,” Mark Langan, vice president of field operations, wrote in court documents.

A judge issued a preliminary order against the man, essentially declaring his actions inhumane and precluding him from harassing the society.

Friday, the man was charged with making terroristic threats — a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. Douglas County Judge Jeffrey Marcuzzo set his bail at $25,000. The man will have to pay 10 percent, or $2,500, to be released from jail.

The man faces trial this month on a misdemeanor charge of animal cruelty.
