The family of Lt. Cmdr. Edward Lin, the Navy officer accused of espionage and adultery, wants to “take back the narrative.”

Lin was arrested in September 2015 and held in pretrial confinement for eight months to keep the case quiet. It was only in April 2015 that the military publicly revealed that he was arrested for leaking military secrets to China and Taiwan in exchange for sexual favors from prostitutes.

The Lins created the website BringEddyHome.org to accuse the U.S. government, military and media of withholding evidence and violating Lin’s constitutional rights. The site claims Lin’s story is being manipulated to turn the nation against him.

Nonetheless, almost nine months after the government placed Eddy behind bars in pre-trial confinement, his defense team is still asking the government to release evidence.

Meanwhile, the government charged Eddy with a litany of crimes that peddles a narrative fit for a spy novel–espionage, falsification of an official document, failure to report a foreign contact, as well as prostitution and adultery.  Unnamed “government officials” played along and conjured up different versions of this titillating tale of “the spy who loved me” for the media.

We are terribly sorry to disappoint…Eddy’s tale is not as salacious as the government’s narrative makes it out to be.  However, we are still mounting a defense against the government’s narrative and that defense needs your financial support.

The website is plastered with family photos of Lin in uniform and on vacation, but does not offer any specifics regarding the case or the military’s alleged manipulation of the facts. The site argues this is due to the case’s “opaqueness.”

Lin used to work for Special Projects Patrol Squadron 2, a secretive Navy intelligence unit. Since the Navy officer’s crime is connected to the nature of his work, releasing too many facts about the case to the defense or public could place classified information in jeopardy.

Is their a conspiracy underfoot? Or is this website the Lin’s family attempt to deflect blame? Let us know in the comments.
