The Pentagon is turning the fight to squash ISIS up another notch. On Monday, Pentagon officials stated that the US will send more troops and aircraft to Turkey to keep ISIS militants from spilling over the Turkey-Syria border.

Officials did not mention exactly how many troops were heading to Turkey. “”We’re talking about logistics — berthing and force protection and things like that,” said Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, a spokesman for the Pentagon. “You would need to have more people to do more operations.”

Just last week, Turkey surprised the world by announcing that it would allow American troops to use its military base in Incirlik to send airstrikes into Syria. When asked to do the same in 2003 during the Iraq War, Turkey refused to allow American troops to use its territory to strike Saddam Hussein’s forces. This change of heart may mean big things for both the war against ISIS and Turkish foreign policy.

There are currently 1,700 airmen stationed in Incirlik.
