It’s no secret that Italy is an extremely desirable vacation destination — Rome, Venice, Florence — but guess what isn’t? The fascist dictatorship of Benito Mussolini and/or the year 1942, when World War II was raging, Jews were being murdered by Nazis at Auschwitz and 21,000 Italians were slaughtered at the Battle of Stalingrad.

Alice Sabatini (pictured above on the left) this found out the hard way. She won the Miss Italy (“Miss Italia”) pageant on Monday, and in order to do so she had to answer a series of questions posed by the judges of the contest, one of which had historical theme and went a little something like this:

“Which historical period [would] she most like to live in?”

Here answer (according to translation obtained by The Independent):

“1942. You know we always read pages and pages on the WWII and I would like to experience it, though obviously being a woman I would have just stayed home and wouldn’t have to be a soldier.”

Sabatini received a glut of negative feedback via social media after the ceremony was over, but her wild answer didn’t seem to matter to the judges. She still won the damn thing.

Here she is being crowned:

It’s also worth nothing that the beauty queen is on record as saying that Michael Jordan — yes, of basketball fame — is her favorite “Italian” historical figure ever. Not accurate, but according to the following finding/keen eyes of Barstool Sports, we can see why she minded just a little bit of prejudice regarding “His Airness” and University of North Carolina alum.

This is Ms. Sabatini’s tattoo, on her thigh:
