There’s a woman in Maryland who might be receiving a bouquet of flowers or a bottle of cognac or a subscription to the “Jelly of the Month Club” very soon — courtesy of the White House.
Her name is Barbara Mikulski, and she’s a U.S. senator from Maryland. Wednesday morning she stepped up and sealed the deal on the preservation of President Obama’s controversial Iran nuclear deal by pledging to back the agreement.
With her support, the president currently has enough votes via the U.S. Senate (34) to survive a veto should Congress try and nix the agreement through a “resolution of disapproval that both the House and Senate are expected to vote on later this month” — according to the Washington Post.
A two-thirds supermajority would have been necessary in both chambers to override the deal.
“No deal is perfect, especially one negotiated with the Iranian regime. I have concluded that this Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action is the best option available to block Iran from having a nuclear bomb,” Mikulski said, via a statement. “For these reasons, I will vote in favor of this deal.”
