No, ghosts aren’t flying these F-16s.
They’re Boeing’s modified F-16s — called the QF-16 — and they’re flown by remote control sans human being in the cockpit (as seen above). This one took off from Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida.
According to the United States Air Force, they’re set to replace the Vietnam-era QF-4 target drone. Recently they took them through simulated weapons testing, but would not confirm whether or not they’ll be used in combat.
