At this point, it’s social media 101 to not give away the location of your terrorist hideout on Facebook. It’s just common sense. Whatever you do, don’t post the address to your terrorist headquarters online. Ever.

Luckily for us, some ISIS militants are lacking in the common sense department. Thanks to an incriminating comment and photo posted to a public forum, the U.S. Air Force was able to geo-locate an ISIS base and deliver three JDAMs to its front door.

Gen. Hawk Carlisle, head of Air Combat Command, explained how this stroke of luck occurred to Defense Tech.

“The guys that were working down out of Hurlburt, they’re combing through social media and they see some moron standing at this command. And in some social media, open forum, bragging about the command and control capabilities for Daesh, ISIL,” Carlisle said. “And these guys go: ‘We got an in.’ So they do some work, long story short, about 22 hours later through that very building, three [Joint Direct Attack Munitions] take that entire building out.”

The military has not released the exact location of the base or the aircraft that took it out.

ISIS uses social media to recruit members and disseminate propaganda, but their online presence is helping the military track down militants on the ground. Of course, this goes both ways. Just yesterday, a devastating cyber attack has left millions of Americans at risk.

Keep your wits about you as your surf the net, folks, and be sure trust the right people with your sensitive information.
