Turns out one of the heads of a ruthless, child-killing terrorist organization — who put on airs that their violence was a means to an extremist religious end — is completely full of crap, according to video footage of his interrogation, seen by Anadolu Agency, a state-run press agency in Turkey.

Bulama Modu is allegedly a commander of Boko Haram, the terror group based in Nigeria. He oversees their ragtag operations out of the country’s Bulakuri area, located in the northeast. It was there that the Nigerian army successfully captured a handful of Boko militants — one of them being Modu himself.

Naturally, the Nigerian soldiers questioned the leader about many things — including his religious beliefs. That’s when the beans were spilled, and truth gushed from his quivering mouth: he wasn’t really a Muslim. Because he didn’t know how being a Muslim worked. At all.

This from the Daily Sabah:

“I don’t know how to read the Quran,” the captured militant chief admits in the footage in response to interrogators’ questions about his understanding of Islamic jurisprudence.

He adds: “And I don’t know how to perform [Muslim] prayers either.”

While the whole idea of Boko Haram was to create an “Islamic state in Nigeria’s mostly Muslim north”, they haven’t really been good at winning over the people they’re attempting to preside over. They’re hated by many Nigerian Muslims who claim the faction’s horrible practices are unbecoming of their faith and don’t represent their beliefs.

Thankfully for the, good news is on the horizon. This again from the Daily Sabah:

Nigeria on Wednesday claimed Boko Haram’s six-year insurgency was nearing an end, after the military said it had cleared rebel camps, rescued hundreds of women and children and arrested dozens of suspected militants.
