During an address at the Council for Foreign Relations on Monday, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, Lisa Monaco, announced that in the coming weeks the White House will be releasing data on combatant and noncombatant casualties from United States airstrikes “outside areas of active hostilities since 2009.

She also mentioned that the statistics will be released annually going forward.

“We know that not only is greater transparency the right thing to do, it is the best way to maintain the legitimacy of our counter-terrorism effort and the broad support of our allies,” she said.

The numbers should be both interesting and terrifying.

Stay tuned to the blog for when the assessment does finally come out.
