Marine Corporal Bunce, meet service dog-in-training Bunce.

One may be a grizzled war hero and other may be a golden retriever, but the two Bunces have a lot in common. They are both smart, brave and very friendly around other Marines. In fact, Bunce the Marine will help train Bunce the puppy to become a fully-trained service dog that serves other wounded warriors.

Justin Bunce was severely wounded in 2004 while serving in Iraq. His injuries were compounded after he was injured in a car accident and suffered a seizure. Injuries aside, Bunce has continued to move forward and help his fellow Marines.

Little Bunce was born in the Warrior Canine Connection’s Semper Fi litter. The pup will train until he is two years old, at which point trainers will decide whether Bunce is better suited as a PTSD therapy dog or a mobility dog. At two and a half, Bunce will be partnered with a veteran.

Watch the Bunces meet for the first time in the video below.
