United States Men’s National Team (USMNT) soccer head coach Jurgen Klinsmann may have been born and raised in Germany, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t support our military veterans.

Recently, he stepped up and put his money where his mouth is and gave a grand to the American Outlaws fan group who are currently crowdfunding money to send vets to the USMNT game against Mexico at the Rose Bowl in California on October 9.

But that’s not all to the story.

There’s a whole other side to this effort, too. According to their GoFundMe page, they estimated that Mexican fans outnumbered U.S. fans when the two last played in 2011, in the same arena.

The fall game is a qualifier for the 2017 Confederations Cup, which will take place in Russia. Just like the 2018 World Cup.

More from Sports Illustrated on the cause:

The campaign began with a goal of $5,000, which it quickly surpassed, and raised to $15,000 with the intent of purchasing 10 rows of 25 seats each for members of the armed forces and their families.
