Buddy the 13 year-old Golden Retriever is always happily wags her tail when her family comes home. When Private Hannah Foraker came back from boot camp, however, senior dog was so excited that she fell over.

Last September, Foraker enlisted in the Army and left for basic training in Oklahoma. She returned home to Cleveland, Ohio in December to spend Christmas with her family. Foraker told Buzzfeed News that she had never left home before, and striking out on her own without any of her family was a wastershed moment. Her biggest struggle was separating from her family, including her beloved Buddy.

“She’s very old and has arthritis and is mostly deaf,” Foraker said, “but I still remember getting her as a puppy.”

Foraker was looking forward to reuniting with her dog, but she wasn’t prepared for Buddy’s intense, emotional reaction to seeing her owner again.

“We opened the front door and she came running out and greeted me and my family, but then kind of did a double take and came back to me,” Foraker said. “She was completely overwhelmed and she couldn’t even stand up.”

Though the reunion happened in December, it was only until late February that Foraker’s family shared the video online.

Have some tissues ready as you watch this senior dog greets Foraker and rolls on the ground with happiness.
