A newly-committed recruit to the United States Air Force Academy hailing from Tennessee is not only more than qualified to be a Falcon on the gridiron, but he’s well-primed to be a fine military officer, too.

Because, Roland Williams III is a hero. And it has absolutely nothing to do with sports.

Here’s the story of how he selflessly saved a man’s life just a few months ago, via the Colorado Springs Gazette:

In September, the Memphis native was driving down Sam Cooper Blvd. with his father on the way to school when a car in front of them swerved off the road and into nearby woods, where if flipped with the driver pinned inside.

“I told my dad to, ‘Pull over, pull over,” Williams told a local television station, which named him Local Person of the Week for his quick actions. “I was begging him to pull over, so as soon as we got out the car I threw my phone, my Beats, everything down and I ran to the wreck.”

Williams pulled the driver out of the overturned car just before it caught fire.

“Honestly, if I got burned or something happened, I mean there’s no other way I’d rather go out,” said Williams.

In between classes and training in his pursuit to become an elite airman, the 5’11”, 170 pounds, Williams will play cornerback for the academy’s squad. West Point, Furman, Murray State, Troy, Arkansas State and Memphis were the schools he turned down to sign with the Falcons.
