A Marine veteran in Texas is aglow after his six-year-old made a simple, yet heartfelt decision recently regarding the outfit he was to wear to his elementary school, for “free dress day.”

All along, Xaeden Spencer was going to dress up as Superman — throw on the blue tights, the red cape, and pretend to be the make-believe “man of steel.”

But then something changed. He thought about his daddy, and it became clear.

He was going to wear his old United States Marine uniform. Ditch the fake hero, for the real one.

“It made me pretty happy,” Xaeden’s father, Cameron, told KLTV ABC. “He makes it pretty known that he likes the Marines but the fact that he chose that over a fictitious superhero … it was a big deal to me.”

The former leatherneck was in the service for five years, and was deployed overseas for about a year, to Afghanistan, right after his son was born.

The photograph below as posted to Facebook by Cameron with the following caption:

“I am one proud and happy dad … While most kids are running around dressed as Spiderman or another superhero, Xaeden wanted to wear one of my old uniforms.”
