The former political hopeful and deviously handsome, swashbuckling United States Air Force veteran who goes by the name “Rick Perry” officially hung up his spurs in the race for the Republican party presidential nomination last week, after running into major fundraising issues.

In other words, he didn’t have enough money (nor enough buzz) for the long haul.

The keyword in that last sentence? “Enough”. Because the ten-gallon hat he was sucking his straw from isn’t empty at all. In fact, the well-funded super PAC still had millions of dollars left to its name when the former Texas governor pulled out of the party race, which has led some of the contributors to ask for their donation back. Returned. And once again in their deep pocket.

Enter a rich computer tycoon and his son.

This from Politico:

The son of one top donor to the PAC, Doug Deason, said his father – tech magnate Darwin Deason — anticipates that contributions will be returned and the committee, dubbed the Opportunity and Freedom PAC, will shutter. But Austin Barbour, a senior member of the PAC’s leadership, said he’s still discussing options with the group’s lawyers.

Deason forked over a whopping $5 million to Perry. A sum his son says will be returned, just not right away. He said a senior member of the PAC is handling the situation and is “just being cautious to make sure it is all done properly and legally.”

The father-son duo said they will eventually choose to back another Republican, but are not sure who that is at the moment.
