Rebekah Gregory was one of dozens of runners wounded during the tragic Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. Though her injuries led to the amputation of her lower left leg, Gregory has taken this challenge in stride and proudly displays her prosthetic leg during marathons.

This year, Gregory left her prosthetic at home so she could dress up as Vietnam veteran and amputee Lt. Dan from ‘Forrest Gump’ for Halloween. The resemblance is uncanny.

Though the surly Lt. Dan is a fictional character, the man who originally brought him to life is a vocal advocate for the military community and wounded warriors. Gary Sinise was named an honorary U.S. Navy Chief Petter Officer for his work helping military veterans through his nonprofit, the Gary Sinise Foundation. He also personally tours military bases with the Lt. Dan Band to boost morale and hosts benefit concerts to raise money for struggling veterans.

It’s awesome to see a survivor like Gregory emulating Lt. Dan and overcoming her injury with such positivity. We’d like to think both Sinise and Lt. Dan would approve.
