Corporal Nero isn’t one to shirk responsibilities. When asked to do something, especially for his country, he does it. No questions asked.

Of course, his inquiries — if any — come in the form of a short bark, or a howl, because he’s a not a human but a dog, and one with a distinct duty with a military police patrol.

Using his acute senses, he detects bombs or other dangerous explosives, and saves lives.

Over the weekend he was asked to do something out of his norm, but that didn’t stop him from doing it, and doing it well.

He, along with members of the United States Marine Corps and the Canadian military partook in a pregame ceremony to celebrate the NHL Anaheim Ducks’ Armed Forces Appreciation Night at their home Honda Center in California. It was there where the canine was escorted to center ice by U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Brandon C. Benningfield and dropped the ceremonial “first puck” in between players from both sides (the Calgary Flames were the opposing squad).

Corporal Nero savvily dropped the hunk of rubber directly in front of the American player.

The Ducks also showed appreciation for the men and women in uniform by sporting special camouflage warmup jerseys.

The Ducks went on to win the game, 4-1.
