In the Army’s ongoing efforts to make more military jobs available to female soldiers, all but one field artillery military occupation specialty (MOS) will accept women. This will open up 21,000 jobs that used to be restricted to male service members.

Qualified women can enter these new jobs as early as October. The only artillery MOS that is still closed to women is the 13F fire support specialist position.

Integrating women into combat roles has been a long-term goal for the military. In addition to the artillery MOS jobs, the Army has opened more than 75,500 formerly male-only positions to female soldiers since 2012. An estimated 124,000 Army positions, mainly infantry, special forces and armor fields, still do not accept women.

All military branches have until Sept. 30 to present a plan for integrating women into remaining special forces and combat roles to the Pentagon.
