A United States Air Force airman died Saturday afternoon after she slipped and fell from a waterfall then plummeted 15 feet into the deadly waters of the Tanaga Gumui basin, in Japan.
According to reports, it took hours for rescue teams to recover her body.
Shannon Purcell was just 19 years old.
A native of Pennsylvania, she was on leave from her base in Okinawa and visiting Aha Falls, a popular adventure spot for tourists and avid hikers alike.
She was assigned to the 18th Munitions Squadron at Kadena Air Base.
