A cadet attending the United States Air Force Academy was arrested for buying illegal drugs from dark net — an “overlay network that can only be accessed with specific software” (that exists on the internet) — and selling them to fellow cadets at the Colorado school, according to a report published by The Gazette.

More from The Daily Dot:

Junior Cadet Nathaniel Penalosa is facing up to 15 years in prison on 10 criminal charges for allegedly manufacturing, using, and selling drugs like MDMA, LSD, and prescription drugs to other cadets; three of whom testified against Penalosa in exchange for immunity from criminal charges. The drugs Penalosa allegedly brought to the academy were used to boost studying as well as for recreational purposes.

If you don’t know what the dark net is, you’re not alone. And you’re probably not a big time drug user. While it supports many black markets, the dark net (or the “darknet” as it’s sometimes called) is home to a bunch of exclusive, high-end illegal online narcotic bazaars. And apparently it’s good because incorporate and apply the same kind of crowdsourced data that a site like Yelp utilizes. So the drugs that come from it are better than those you would obtain off the street.

Penalosa’s felonious operation was discovered back in November, when the academy did a routine dorm inspection. The Air Force then performed a in-depth investigation and uncovered the breadth of the junior cadet’s enterprise.

Since then, they’ve gotten some unintentionally comedic testimony from a bunch of Penalosa’s young military clients. Like this one, from Luca Simmons, who uttered these exact words at a recent hearing when describing what happened after he took some LSD he bought:

“If I stared at something, it looked like it was melting.”
