For the first time since the 1990s, American B-52 Stratofortresses are being to deployed to the Middle East, to participate in Operation Inherent Resolve, the military intervention to put an end to ISIS’s (Islamic State, IS, ISIL, Daesh, etc.) reign in the region.

Witness — through the following footage — the gargantuan long range, subsonic, jet-powered and strategic bombers land at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the peninsular Arab country located but a hop, skip and a jump away from Iraq, Syria and even Iran (which is right across the Persian Gulf).

Based at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, they took off from the Bayou State originally and, just like they’ve been doing since their inception in the 1950s, went about their business in mighty fashion.

Here’s a decades-old video about the B-52 that has airmen — even back then — proclaiming that despite constant modifications, eventually the aircraft will become obsolete.

Just not yet.
