We think it’s going to be a long, long time until touchdown brings us around again to find that Yves Rossy isn’t the man we think he is at all, oh no no no …
He’s a rocketman?
Actually, he is. Really. And the video above proves it.
This was taken almost two years ago while the Swiss man with a custom-built “jetsuit” (a carbon-Kevlar jetwing with four engines) was touring America and making cameos at airshows. This particular footage is from a performance at the Experimental Aircraft Association’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
“It’s just pleasure, fun, it’s total freedom, you have no, almost no limits in the third dimension you know, just up, okay I go,” Rossy said.
With his flying apparatus he’s able to go 190 mph through the air at a maximum elevation of 12,000 feet.
His first flight in the United States was in 2011, when he flew over the Grand Canyon.
