The Boeing B-52 Stratofortress is just as cool as the name suggests. The jet-powered strategic bomber broke 11 speed and distance records back in the 1960s, and today it continues to pack some serious heat.
The B-52 Stratofortress can carry up to 70,000 pounds of ammunition. It’s standard loadout includes:
– eight AGM-84 Harpoon missiles
-four AGM-142 Raptor missiles
– 51 500-pound bombs
– 30 1,000-pound bombs
– 20 AGM-86C conventional air-launched cruise missiles (CALCM)
– 12 joint stand-off weapons (JSOW)
– 12 joint direct-attack munitions (JDAM)
– 16 wind-corrected munitions dispensers (WCMD)
That’s a lot of firepower for a single plane. The United States has produced a total of 750 of these bad boys since the plane debuted in 1952.
