Senior Airman Kyara Johnson has officially become the first female member of the F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team. In her new position, Johnson will operate the video cameras and assist with maintenance during F-22 Raptor airshows.
“I’ve had people come up to me and tell me they just had to talk to me because they are happy that a female is on the team,” Johnson told the press.
Before joining the demo team, Johnson loaded missiles for the 94th Aircraft Maintenance Unit. While the F-22 Raptors she works with now aren’t outfitted with any missiles or bombs, she remains dedicated to her job.
“She is definitely a breath of fresh air for the team,” said Tech. Sgt. Jonathan Billie, F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team maintenance team chief. “Her work ethic is astounding. You never have to ask her to do anything because she is already three steps ahead of you. And she does it with a smile on her face.”
The F-22 Raptor Demonstration Team will perform at the U.S. Air Force Tattoo in Washington DC on Sept. 17. They will also perform as a Washington Nationals Major League Baseball game.
