Our friends over at Guardian of Valor have drawn our attention to the plight of Sgt. Jackie Irving, a wounded Army veteran and Purple Heart recipient from Sanford, Fla.
Irving and his family received a mortgage-free home from Operation Finally Home in March. Only three months later, their home was broken into by while the family was at church. Approximately $6,000 of property was stolen, including electronics, guns and a fund for children’s clothing.
“My Purple Heart was stepped on. It’s bad when a soldier thinks he’s over there defending his country and his country don’t give a God darn about him,” Irving said to reporters.
Last night, the situation escalated. Mrs. Irving told Guardian of Valor that intruders smashed their mailbox and attempted to break down the front door.
Guardian of Valor is currently running a GoFundMe campaign for the family and accepting clothing donations for Irving’s children. You can learn more about this incident and the family’s needs in this Guardian of Valor blog post.
