L. Ron Hubbard was a science fiction author and the founder of the Church of Scientology. He wrote a self-help book called Dianetics in 1950, which eventually served as the basis for a “religion” that as of today has about 50,000 members worldwide.
He was also a United States military veteran. During World War II, he served as a Navy officer and even commanded two ships (USS YP-422 and USS PC-815) before being removed by his superiors in both instances for being incapable of properly performing his duties.
The letter to the VA displayed below was written by him on October 15, 1947. It’s a man desperate for psychological help that, reportedly, he never received.
Somehow, shortly thereafter, he began writing a book teaching people how to mine the very mental guidance and support he was so unfortunately denied.
