Good things come to those who wait … and have some major finances to back them up.

In Watertown, New York, Air Force Staff Sergeant Tyler F. Weese scooped up the beautiful and historic Emma Flower Taylor Mansion after waiting almost a year.

According to the Watertown Daily Times, an unidentified partner and he have been closely monitoring the property and were finally able to purchase it for the bargain price of $849,000 (it was originally listed at $1.5 million):

“It’s a beautiful mansion,” he said. “We’ll make sure it’s well taken care of.”

The 14,000-square-foot mansion has been on the market for a few years. Its former owner was River Rat Properties, owned by Katherine Perry-Pyne.

The brownstone mansion was built in 1891 as a wedding gift from former New York Gov. Roswell P. Flower to his daughter, Emma, and her husband, John Byron Taylor.

In the 1940s, it was divided into apartments, which Sergeant Weese and his partner are planning to further expand. Still, much to the approval of the town, the two hope to maintain its authenticity and historical quality.

The Taylor Mansion is a Watertown landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Local materials were used to build the property. The sandstone, being one of the most unique aspects of the mansion (since the more traditional wood was not used) came from a quarry in nearby Medina.

Buying the Taylor Mansion is just another step in Weese’s effort to establish a commercial property investment business after he leaves the Air Force. So far, his partner and he already own a rental property and are in the process of buying another.
