A search for a missing Marine who abruptly left Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst in central New Jersey, ended in tragedy Saturday night, when Sergeant Tristan Clinger, 28, beloved husband and father, was found dead just miles from the military installation where he was stationed.

According to his wife, he was last seen on the base on December 20 at 4 p.m. Shortly thereafter his whereabouts were unknown, and a search party was subsequently dispatched.

Nancy Schaefer, of the group Missing In America, told the Patch of Manchester that Clinger’s body was discovered by the Burlington County K9 unit during a sweep in the Browns Mills section of Pemberton Township.

A Louisville, Kentucky native, the late United States military man had served five years in the Marine Corps before his tragic end. His wife reported that he seemed “distraught” before his disappearance.

No official word yet regarding the cause of death.
