A senseless, callous crime hasn’t been solved, but at the very least, the pain and damage it caused has been mended. And it’s all thanks to a current United States Army sergeant, and his son.
Late last year, war medals were stolen out of the home of Joe Brown, a Vietnam veteran and Wellsville, Ohio native. For months, he’s had to endure without the symbols of valor — awards that stand for so much — and the possibility they’d never be returned or replaced.
Recently, that card — that ugly scenario — was taken out of the deck.

That’s Sgt. Chuck Mick, a soldier stationed out of Washington, DC, handing the shadowbox full of military decorations (including a Silver Star and Purple Heart) to Brown.
“It brought part of my life back,” said the old soldier to WTOV9 in Ohio. “I would die for my friends. We stood toe to toe. We brought our colors back because we didn’t run and people stole this and it’s like taking a piece, I don’t have no proof. I may be 70 years old but I’m proud of the people I fought with.”
Local police are asking that any information or tips about this robbery be passed along via their Crimebusters Tipline: 1-800-862-BUST.
